I hear ya TAandy. As long as you don't go quietly into the night, any contribution is welcome!

I stopped folding in October because I can't afford electricity either, and my new i7 isn't helping (710W @ load).

No. We need a M-TAD3C! A Mobile TeAm Anandtech Distributed Computing Crunching Center.

We buy a large RV fleet. Fill them with our crunchers and modify the ventilation systems. Then we buy a surplus C-5 Galaxy from the air force and fly it back and forth every winter-summer shift. :p

well, as you know, the 2 projects i want to run most are orbit and planetquest.
so, in the meantime, i'm just picking a project and running it for a while.
currently running rosetta again.

if my 2 'wants' don't come to anything, i'm really not sure what i'm going to do in the long term.
i'd love to have every pc in the house running a dc project, but when they increase electricity prices by 50% in a year i'm afraid it's just getting too damn expensive :(

Just do what I do, run it on just 1 PC. I don't keep my 2nd one on (mostly) because of electricity costs.

No problem....remember this amounts to charitable work.....you do it when you have excess money or resources to give....bottomline you take care of yourself first....

I am running 3 gpu cards, but I remember when I was running 2 dual cores and 1 quad core back in 2007 with 2 x1900's and was only getting 8k on a great day and it cost be about 40 more dollars in electricity a month.

Now I run just gpu clients (smp units and the client sucks....pain to use, shut down, start, etc...) but 3 8800/9800gts.....

If that is around 30-40 I will be happy to give that....

That nut MarkFW900 with his 11 boxes and like 19 video cards probably will have a 300+ dollar electricity bill.

I think out of most all of the DC projects I have seen I think Folding should be eligible as a taxbale charitable donation. SETI???? What a bunch of dreamers and a waste in my opinion....

No not a waste, if you don't search you'll never find.
Dreamers? maybe , but if the world never had dreamers we'd never have innovation or invention :p.

Oh btw, maybe you're new to the DC forum?, but we generally don't bash other projects.
Criticism is one thing, but derating is another.
I totally understand that people don't want to run SETI because of it's open ended time goals or not being certain that we are searching the correct place/time/method, however that doesn't make it a waste.
Oh & calling a team mate a nut might not go down so well either ;). He's just very enthusiastic about it :D.

That is OK...I am good friends with him....he knows he is nuts...when he gets his electricity bill in a few days he may confirm it to himself!!!

Yeah, we're all slightly nuts, but it's all for a good cause.

So, btw, what project(s) should I put my Q6600 @ 3.6 on? Will have CF HD48850s installed too. Running Windows 7 at the moment.

My problem is not electricity so much as space. My apt is small, and I have so many PCs! I have two card tables that hold one PC+monitor each. But I have like 7 computers that I would love to hook up and run DC with.

Bolt those spare PC to the wall & ceiling ;)

Re projects, I thought you were folding currently?, well anyway depends what you're into.
SETI uses Nvidia GPUs too nowadays although it's still very much in Beta.
DPAD is an easy to use & stable client for your CPU, to learn more about that 1 go here.
