Could someone out there help me reduce the flicker on my monitor? I don't know much about it. Is it as simple as choosing the highest refresh rate available for the resolution? Right now, i'm running XP at 1280x960 on 19" ViewSonic G79 using MSI 8820 GeForce2 GTS card. In the Advanced Display Properties, the highest refresh rate available for this resolution is 85Hz, and the results aren't very pleasant. When i go down to 1152x864, 100Hz becomes an option and the results are much easier on the eyes. Problem is, 1152 is just too small for a monitor of this size. Any way to reduce the flicker and use 1280 at the same time?

maybe you don't have enough power, do you have a lot of things hooked up to that power strip? 85 should be more than sufficient, most people can live with 75. i'd say it's either the power, or you have extremely sensitive eyes.

... or you have something interfering w/ the monitor.

I have my 19" Flat CRT on my desk, and there is a flourescent (sp ?) light affixed like within 6 inches of the monitor. If I turn the light on while the monitor is on, I get a flickering in the top corner of the monitor by the light. Also, if I'm over at my fiance's, she has the tv set up right beside the computer monitor, when she has both on, her monitor flickers, pretty badly too (I mean yeah it's viewable but I can't stand it!!). You might check for some sort of electrical interference like this

supossedly non-shielded speakers/subwoofers do the same thing to your monitor, if they are close to it

The way your monitor cable is routed could be a problem too. While the cable should have enough shielding to protect it from electormagnetic interference, it may not. Make sure the cable isn't laying on top of something that puts out a lot of interference, like a fan or something.

Like the others said, if 85hz isn't enough for you, you must have extra sensitive eyes!
