Reducing fan noise

Ok... this sux... I got 3 sunon 50 cfm fans with 40 dba... put 2 in rear, one on top... They ARE LOUDER THAN MY HSF, rated at 48.5 dba.. Woo... they lied a lot possibly lol. So yeah... I need to know a way to reduce the noise, but not using a fan controller... I've heard of the mufflers... But they don't seem to work very well in the reviews I've read... so is there another way? Btw... its the RPM's blastin off. Don't tell me to take em out... But I will move em around. They are my exhaust fans.

well, you dont want to do what will work(fan controller, different fans, etc), but i dont blame you for not wanting to spend money....You could undervolt them to 5v to get them to spin slower, therefore reducing the noise.

here is a link and a website that will help you silence your computer.

I bought some 120mm Antec Tricool fans for my case, they have a built in 3 speed RPM controller so I can go from ultra silent to really loud when I need the cooling.

If you had an antec truepower, these psu's have 5V fan only connectors.

Think about why your 3x 40db fans are louder than your 48db cpu fan. There may be off specs, but more importantly, these fans are directly leaking their noise outside. In order for your cpu fan's noise to be heard, it has to go through steel, components, and the fans which are already making noise.

Remove the top fan and leave the hole there. It may actually improve your cooling by not having a fan there, but a hole.

Other than that, your options are limited to none.

Or you can buy some higher quality fans. I 5V'ed my 80mm Sunon fans, and they are still the loudest thing in my case (I've got a quiet case). And it's not just pure RPM causing the noise, you can definitely hear the motor noise coming out of these things.

Arctic Cooling makes some really good quiet 80mm fans.

Woo... I think I need a fan controller... Its the motor itself roaring through the thing... DANG IS THAT MOTOR LOUD... Oh well, vantec nexus here I come I guess...
