I am a newcommer to these forums, but i have had a lot of computer experience, and one thing is certain, if you want a computer that will stay up and running, you have to have good cooling. But a lot of people dont want to deal with the noise that comes with having a ton of fans in their computer. I have built a very cool looking, and unique way to fix this problem.

The secret is in a little thing called a fan bus. What this little dealy does is connect all of your fans to individual switches, so you can control what fans are on and off at all times. It is fairly simple, it requires a bit of electronics knowlege, mainly working a saudering gun.

The end design is a nice looking case mod. with 4 led lights. I will try to find a detailed explaniation on this, but i cant dig one up now.

Basically, the way it works is that you drill 8 (4 for fans, 4 for LED's)holes into a spare face plate for a 5 1/4 or a 3 1/2 drive bay. You mount 4 2-way switches, that yo ucan get from radio shack, on the top, and get 4 LED lights with built in diodes, that you mount under the 4 switches. You wire each LED into its corresponding ground the LED Lights. run a peice of wire from each switch to a speaker connecter, connect the fan into that. And repeat When you are done, you can connect it all with a MOLEX connecter, and wala. you have a bunch of fans connected, using 1 molex connecter, and you can control the noise in your box, with the flip of a switch or 2

Of course there is a bunch more than that to it, perhaps if anyone is interested, i can write up detailed instructions on how to do it.
Currently, i have 4 fans connected to mine, and not only does it look neat. i will try and get some pics posted of my MOD for you all to see. if you are intersted

thanks

Baybus' are very well known. Any modder familiar with places like virtualhideout have been doing them for years. I built my first about 2.5 years ago. There are companies who make these at factories now.

I think the noise people are trying to beat is from Overclockers, who often times, don't have the luxury of turning fans off, or slowing them down as I do.

Thanks for the advice, you're just a few years late :)

WD40? As in the spray?

I've used it on squeaking door hinges and the like, but isnt it maybe better to use a drop of oil on fan bearings when they start to vibrate/squeak more than normal - rather than something like WD40?

IMO rheobus's arent the best solution to a quiet pc (tho can be for some), good airflow design and efficient HS & fans are - imho.
