And? I don't like the Red Sox much either. They are certainly guilty of the same crime, just to a lesser degree.

See in NY we are respectful to our players and try to pay them what they want, not chase them out of the city (i.e. Nomar)
Aaron boone was chased out quickly, especially given his heroics last year.

I'm just saying that 50 million is allocated to its own home grown players, so please understand we don't go out and spend on everyone else
Which leaves around $130 million on outside players. Which I believe is the Red Sox entire payroll, and they are 2nd or 3rd in that category.

Any Yankee fan cannot argue payroll when compared to the red sox, they have a 40% advantage.

The Varitek incident happened for atleast a minute, from the HBP, to the escorting, to the getting in the face. He didn't have time to take off his mask, but he had time to walk down the basepath?
I timed it. 10 seconds. Out of which varitek was in front of Arod for 2.

Arod? Looks like he left half of his talent in Texas.

Sheffield? Likewise, except with Atlanta.

Matsui? Garbage, unworthy all star, especially as an outfielder.

Jeter? Good, for a shortstop anyway.

You DO realize that the Yankees started the same number of infielders as St. Louis in the All-star game correct?
Neither Arod nor Giambi deserved the start. Hank Blalock and David Ortiz have played better this year.

Aaron Boone voided his contract and blew out his knee, FORCING NY to look for someone else.

Red Sox payroll vs. Yankees payroll can not be argued? Thats BS. Whether its 250 million and 120 million, Red Sox overpay their players regardless. They increased their payroll by 27 million this last year, while the Yankees increased it by 32 million (had there been no Aaron boone incident, this would be 22 million less). Looks like Red Sox are trying to catch up.

How long does it take to drop your mask? 1 second? maybe 2.

ARod also left Texas, the most hitter friendly ballpark in the majors.
Sheffield is playing with a shoulder most people would not even lift a pen with.
Matsui is a stand up gentleman and is right up there with the upper tier players in categories. He also hit a grandslam tonight.

I agree that Giambi should not have started, and ARod v. Blalock is arguable.

Rodriguez has had a so-so year hitting... at 3b, OTOH (which as you all know isn't his natural position) he's having a gold glove year.
Hitting is what matters.

Can you seriously say he's having a bad year hitting (which is what he'd known for)? If the answer is yes, I can only shake my head in disgust and suggest you a) watch more games and b) look next time they show his '04 batting average.
Look at his '03 stats. Look at his '04 stats. .04 vatting average is .294

http://bigleaguers.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/4268

The same thing happened to Giambi as well. And it's happening to Arod

Matsui is a consistent 300 hitter. Who do you have that can say that? Ramirez is about the only one. And despite not being just a 300+ hitter, but a MID-300s HITTER - one of the best in basebally - the Sux can't get rid of him.
Matsui is a career .287 hitter. Not much above the league average of .279. If you want to talk average compared to the sox, Ramirez is hitting .328 and is arguably the best hitter in the AL this year and at worst 2nd behind vlad. Damon hits .305. Millar hits .291. There are 27 MLB outfielders with better average than Matsui.

You honestly are blind enough to say Jeter isn't one of the best players in all of baseball?
I'd take a good 25 players over Jeter, probably more. Want their names?

How long does it take to drop your mask? 1 second? maybe 2.
And you still think Varitek can remember to remove his mask in the 2 seconds he was standing in front of Arod? When the idea of smashing Arod's face is much more appealing?

I'll be the first one to agree with a salary cap - but blaming the result of the lack of said cap instead of the lack of said cap makes people look like jealous children. Sad that there are so many who do this And as I said in the other post, I don't think it'll happen because the Yankees are what baseball needs to compete. The reason they need to compete is because society for the most part has ADD/ADHD, which is in turn in large part due to TV putting the absolute worst sh*t they could possibly, conceivably come up with on prime time. Fear Factor? How about Paint Drying? It would be equally as bad & boring, but at least have some educational value (chemical properties of paint). Baseball is "2 borng" and "2 slo 4" most people to watch - which is why it's losing ratings to football & basketball, which in turn is why it needs to do all it can to compete. Why blame the Yankees for a society whose IQ is plummeting?

Best post of the thread. I agree with everything you said. I don't mind the spending in itself, but it's when these morons say its not an advantage or it doesnt that I get irritated. Because it is.

If only the phillies had this sort of cash.

Please, I've researched this topic over and over again since thats all anyone ever talks about. If you want to talk money, its not the reason the Yankees are up here. It's a nice start, but you can not say that its anywhere close to the reason we win. When it comes down to it, if you pay a billion dollars to a team with no heart, they won't win. As evidence by the brawl yesterday, both Boston and New York have heart (i.e. the fight) and that is the main reason we see them in such a position.

few things are more irritating than someone who says "we" when referring to a sports team. if you aren't on the team, it isn't "we."

Hitting is what matters.

24 homers, 62 RBIs, 68 runs, .278, 19 Sb in 21 trys, 103 hits, to go with 8 errors at third isn't too shabby. I believe he has VERY similar stats with Blalock, except Blalock doesn't steal bases.

Well unless you consider yourself a very devoted fan and feel like your part of the team. Few things are more irritating than someone bringing up a useless point.

Wow, not a baseball fan, but that 9th inning went fast. Wasn't it 3 pitches, three outs?

Blalock has a .295 average, 24 hr, 72 rbi, and 114 hits. He has 63 runs (why this matters I have no idea). It might be arguable but Blalock does have the edge.

I don't understand why yankee fans keep bringing up this 7.5 game lead. Nothing matters until October (unless you think the Red Sox wont win the wild card). And if I were a yankee fan I'd want the Sox to win. It means we get a tense, exciting 7 game series.

You didn't mention average so I'll fill that in. Arod has a .278 average.

Umm... I did mention average. Blalock (not "Black") has similar stats, but hits in a hitter friendly ballpark (which matters a lot). The 63 runs matters because it shows how smart one's baserunning skills are, speed, and heads up running. Average is very similar, only last week was ARod hitting in the .290's. HR is equal more RBIs and more hits. It is arguable who is the better player, but ARod is also a better defender (as displayed by his near flawless transfer to 3B). You do realize that Offense AND Defense make up a complete player.

Well, its all in their hands now. We don't play them anymore. Lets see if they catch up.
