Howdy!
I've been putting off reformatting for way to long and finally got around to it. As a result, it's been a damn long time since I set up my network, and I've forgotten lots of the finer details. both boxes are running windows XP Media Center 2005 and/or Pro.
I'll be using my main system (monolith) as the server/router (yes, it has dual 1GB NICs), one cat 6 which will go to my switch, then to my computer that I set up as my tivo system years ago, "stubby". I intend to set the permissions like I previously had, to where some folders in both computers can be accessed from either computer when logged into the main account, and some files on both computers are inaccessible when logged into a guest account (hide the porn! ZOMG!)
I'd LIKE to set Monolith to randomly assign IP to Stubby so that, in effect, any computer hooked up to my switch could see Monolith and essentially be set for a LAN party in which Mono was the dedicated server.
Anyone know some good online guides for doing all this? Simplified file sharing won't cut it, if I recall correctly from the last time I did serious networking. This time, I figured I'd ask for help and maybe save some time in the process.
Links and/or suggestions welcomed.
