Redoing a Dell 8200

My wife has a Dell Dimension 8200 computer. The components are respectable -- a 2GHz Pentium 4 and a 40GHz HD -- but the software is POOR. A bloated installation of Windows XP home edition with AOL embedded to the core -- plus a lot of useless programs. I would like to simply reformat her harddrive and install Windows XP Pro with only the software she wants. That should be simple but there is no technical documentation at all with the machine -- just idiot stuff. Has anyone done a reformat such as I have in mind and did you have any problems?AOL installs port magic that is interferring with a LAN I set up to provide her internet broadband access through the router at my machine.

Yeah, just boot from the xp cd included, install all the windows updates, make sure the virus program is installed too along with the drivers from the driver cd. It should be very easy actually.
