O.K so I've had a bad day at work, I didn't feel good, and of course all the whiners come into the office. Leave a little late because I'm working on a policy, and don't want to have to deal with it tommorrow. I'm driving home minding my own business, when suddenly outta no where her comes half an axle, and a tire. I slam on my breaks and steer to the right to avoid the damn thing, but who's watchin for an axle and tire to be coming there way???? The tire axle slam into the front wheel of my truck, and then the damn thing turns and continues down the side of my truck to the rear fender. Now this 15' "BuckshotMudder" leaves a nice dent and scratch in the side of my 97 Nissan that I've babied for 4 years. Open door and look at the horror, and immediately think "He's going to run off, who did this?" I can't even tell, as 4 lane traffic is flying by me.
I finally see Redneck, which I'm sure would have drove off, except the CJ5 that he was towing was missing a back axle. Turns out he was pulling the jeep with his 90's model Dakota, the jeep is obviously a pos, I'm sure he was just too "cheap" to actually have a wrecker tow it. I'm steaming mad, he comes over and looks at my truck, and is all "Man can you believe that...whoooooahh nice dent there, doesn't look bad though." "Prolly won't cost over $200 to just pop that right out"

Yeah right, I work in an insurance office, we're looking at a 1-2k claim here. "well buddy let me tell ya, I don't wanna turn this in on my insurance, cause I'm afraid they might non-renew me, so uh here's my name and number, just get some estimates and I'll pay it out of my pocket...." Yeah right smackhead, I know how that goes, then all of a sudden it wasn't his fault, then he suddenly dissapears, and I'm stuck paying a damn deductable. So knowing this reutine, I immediately go to the nearest business, and call the police for an incident report. Well the local city police closes there office at 5. (translation, if you have an accident, or someone wants to kill you in the city limits make sure they don't do it after 5pm)or before 9pm.

I then call 911 to transfer me to the sheriffs department. They tell me that there on there way. They call back 3 mins later and say that they will be a "few minutes". By this time the redneck has left, after smiling and sayn' over and over "man, I can't believe that happened....yewp that's a nice dent" I wait on the police from `5:20-7pm, I'm really pissed now, and just leave. Come home and know that I'm prolly going to be screwed on this one, and now my truck that I've taken good care of looks really nice with the door/rim/rear quarter panel smashed in. I'm just ready for this day to be over. I'm going to go to the city police and try and get an accident report tommorrow.......I'm just freakn' pissed at Rednecks, and local law enforcement..(or the lack thereof....

Did you get his license plate number? Drivers license number? Any insurance info.?
I don't think you will able to get anything from the police tomorrow without any witnesses, but I wish you the best!

I'd give this one about a 4.2 on the Rant-O-Meter(TM), but I think you've got a right to be pissed. I hope you go the guy's plate and legit info, so that you can go after him. Sounds like you've got a fight on your hands.

4.2 does sound about right;)

Did you get his plates? Sometimes I wonder if I should just carry a camera with me in case of things like this. Some quick snap shots could save you some uber mola.

Yup, and it may shock you to find out how little some things are really held on:
Cieling fans: 2 1/4"x20 screws
Most engines+transmissions: 4 bolts (not including cables, exhaust and things that would break immediately)
Most truck rear suspension: 4 bolts
100+LB rack mount equipment: 4 bolts on the front panel
Golden Gate Bridge: 600,000 rivets/tower :)

Edit: doh!

Yes, it's just a C-Clip holding in the axle. That type of axle is called a semi-floating axle. The bearings are between the axle shaft and the inside of the housing so the axle shaft bears all the weight.

Heavier trucks like some 3/4 ton Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks will have full floating axles where this type of problem can't happen. The bearings are on the outside of the housing itself. The brake drum or rotor is then held onto the axle housing with some bearings and a big locking nut. The wheel when mounts to the drum or rotor with more bolts. The axle shaft then bolts to the big drum or rotor and only delivers torque to the brake drum or rotor. The axle shaft itself holds no weight and can be taken out without removing the wheel at all. If the shaft were to break you just can't deliver torque to the wheel or wheels, but it can't fall out and the wheel can't fall off either.
I love full floating rear axles, but they can be hard to find and not all 3/4 ton trucks have them.

In the entire single paragraph rant above I didn't see anything which makes the individual in question a "Red Neck" other than assumptions made by the author.
Bad deal on the dent thogh. Of course if you'd been driving a real truck instead of a that designer, Japanese, truck wannabe, you city boys are so fond of you might not have been in the accident in the first place.

guys, CJ5s did NOT have C clip rear axles. They came with AMC 20s stock, or if it was really old, a Dana 44. The c clip axles didnt make it to the YJ until 1987. They are still standard on TJs with an option for Dana 44's.

I doubt he would have swapped in a Dana 35 C clip axle, but who knows, maybe he got it cheap.

So I suppose if I would have been driving an American Made Vehicle, or some SUV, a little light would have came on, causing a forcefield to surround my vehicle, and the tire, and axle would have been sooo intemidated that it would have just broken inertia, and ran the other direction?
I bought a Nissan, because I'm still in school, and could not afford the gas, or price of a full sized chevrolet, Ford etc. When your pos Detroit built "vehicle" is settn' on the side of the road at 80k, I might be nice enough to give you a ride in my Nissan with over 200k miles.

Well, you know what he was towing and what he was towing with, right? You've got two vehicle descriptions and a face.

I'd say this guy's gonna get his balls busted. Stupid rednecks.

And yes, I think there were enough pickup truck / "yewp" "boy howdy" "that there dun look like" references to make this guy clearly a certified Redneck. Only thing missing would've been his cousin waiting for him in the front seat of his car.

No, the Ford would have been so intimidated by a superior vehicle (wheel + axle >> Ford) that it would have immediately swerved off the road and rolled over, avoiding the axle completely. Then it would have burst into flames.
