Redhat question. Is it free?

You get the manuals when you pay too. Never underestimate the value of "The Manual"
They can be a big help if your a first timer with Linux.

The internet has enough on RH to not need a physical manual...

True. BTW, it's not free even if you download it. You've still gotta burn it on a CD. 😉

(well, not necessarily - you could mount it via loopback over the network or something, but...)

Ok, a question.

We are interested on the Redhat Linux provided by redhat.com
Would it be the same as downloading it or buying it?

What would be the difference between the professional version and home use? it seems prices are very much different.

Other than that, can i just buy one copy from them and copy it to dozens of PC?

yes, it is perfectly legal to buy one copy and install it on as many PC's as you want.... Forgive me if I'm wrong, but It doesn't sound like your familiar with linux. I's suggest buying whichever version fits you best (unless U have a nice fat pipe to download em) and install it on a single, unused PC and see if it will do what you need. Linux is a fantastic OS, but it can be VERY difficult for some people who are not familiar at all with the unix way of doing things. When you set it up and use it just remember its not windows and doesn't really work like windows and you'll do better... The most common problems I see is when someone tries linux is that they try to find direct comparisons to every windows function.

Good luck

thank you for your very helpful feedback.

You see, our company is going to change our OS to linux from a PICK system OS.
We are not familiar with Linux and has not start to learn about it yet.

But we need to choose a version of Linux first. That is why we are going to choose the newest version Linux from redhat.com. I believe its version 7.3

I am totally new in linux environment. If anyone has any advice, please feel free to drop me a line here or email me at kelvin-koh@cni.com.my

Let me see if I can download the program first. Thanks.

Who needs a manual when you have Anandtech's forums

Seriously, I have solved problems from the forums that no manual in the world could cover 🙂
