Have anyone complete the download yet?

I have been trying to find a mirror that isn?t over crowded since last night but none is available.

Could someone here at AT load it on a private ftp site & let fellow ATers leach an ISO set?

You can also use bittorrent to get it, which is what I'd reccomend (It's what I did)

Thanks guys....the bitorent download indicating that it will take 5 days to finish.

If you're not using it already, check out the experimental client for bittorrent. http://ei.kefro.st/projects/btclient/

It'll let you limit your upload speed so you connection doesn't spend all its time uploading. If you have a connection like ADSL or a Cable modem, the more stuff your uploading, the slower your download will go.

Even if you are, give it a bit, somtimes you don't get the full speed out of it right away. I downloaded the first 3 cds in 3 hours last night.

Make sure you have the right ports open in your firewall (assuming that you have one)

The ports are open & am now down to 7 hours.

It takes a while, but it works. The longer you are on it the faster it gets because the more connections you get.

Starts off at 5 days, goes to 7 hours... In reality it would probably take 3-4 hours at most. Probably less.

The nice thing is that you don't have to sit there and monitor it!


Also it's a nice thing to do. You share your bandwidth so that single servers don't get hammered.

Plus leave it up, so I can download it faster, too!!!

Just think of it as a nice nod to the developers and to those that share the bandwith with you. It realy helps out with this sort of thing. Otherwise (like when slackware 9.0 came out) people have to wait 2-4 DAYS to get a proper download from the overloaded servers.

I'm installing it on my laptop now. I think the install is decent because it gives an amount of control but is still fairly easy to use.

I tried using bittorrent for downloading mandrake 9.2 rc2 (I think).
Ended up spending an entire weekend, upload speed was TWICE the download speed, ended up getting the iso's from a .edu server. In 2 hrs (I have ADSL)

Havent given bittorrent a try ever since.

Cap your upload speed - you're probably squeezing out your ACK's. If I let BT run with no cap, I put 35-40K/s up and get 15-20K/s down. If I cap it at 30K/s (only a few K less), I get 70-100K/s down. Heck of a difference...

How is it compared to the traditional RedHat installer? From RedHat 8.0 / 9 ?

Has anything in the system changed, or is it like RH 8.0 -> 9, changed here and there, new versions etc?

I dont think I've done a RH install since 7.2 so I dont have much of a basis for comparison; the last few linux installs I've done were all Mandrake.

I think the install is decent because it's simple but still gives you the option to manually partition, setup grub, and select packages.
