Redhat and Geforce 256 DDR Driver installation Questions

How do i know which version of redhat i am having?
What does GLX, RPM, GZ, tar stands for, or what do they do?
How do i install the drivers, does using xf86config count?

GLX - GL eXtensions
RPM - Redhat Package Manager
GZ - Gnu Zip
tar - Tape ARchiver

Thanks andri...but i'm still quite confuse about xf86config and actually using the drivers downloaded off the internet.
