Hello all,

Sorry if the question is retarded, redundant or stupid as most noobler linux questions are.

I am thinking of starting a business.

My question is, is Redhat linux 8.0 or any/all of the linuxes also free for commercial use? I would like to use this and it s corresponding apps (openoffice) etc on my business computer(s). The main reason being is down the line, I wouldn't want to come up with a bunch of licenses for my "college-acquired" type software.

Also could which book of these 3 is more heavily recommended as I tend to learn more efficiently from text. Red Hat Linux 8 Bible, Red Hat Linux 8: The Complete Reference, DVD Edition (Osborne Complete Reference Series), or A Practical Guide to Red Hat Linux 8. I am leaning towards the middle one.

Also is the SIL680 raid chipset supported in redhat 8.0?

Covers head prepping for the flames.

it is perfectly fine to use it for business purposes. you can copy, distribute, and profit from it as much as you want. the only real stipulation is that if you distribute changes you made, then you must distribute the source code for your changes as well. (this will most likely not apply at all to you)

Glad I'm not the only one.

Though it never looked like anything special to me, I've heard lots of good things about the "Bible".

Dunno. The chipset page at Linux-IDE mentions it, but I don't know about the RAID capability. Didn't notice drivers jumping out at me either. I'm guessing that using a better supported card would make life easier.

Why? Perfectly reasonable questions...

You know how you download the 5 CD's or whatever for free? Obviously, those can be re-sold, but apparently if you buy Redhat 8.0 from Staples or something it comes with a 6th CD.

Since this CD is not available for download, could one sell this also?

you'd have to look at the licences for whatever is on it. AFAIK no, because the software is not free (in either sense) and is included in the price of the boxed set.
