RedHat 7.1 and VMware

I am running RedHat as a guest OS using VMware (Beta 3.0) with Win2k as a host. After installing Linux and running the instalation of VMware tools, my screen resolution of the X shell (Gnome) increases to 1280*10xx -- too high for my laptop screen to support.

Now, I am still pocking blindly around in Linux, but from everywhere I've read, all I need to do to change a resolution in Linux is to run 'Xconfigurator' and just follow the directions. There is one weird thing though, I am supposed to see at least two screens....one that lets me choose monitor/display type, and another should let me choose the video card. But the video card config. never shows up.

Like I said, I don't know much about what's going on, but could somebody walk me through this......or help me out just bypassing the configurator and help me out with editing the file where these setting sit.

BTW, I don't know if there is a bug with VMware or what not, but I followed their directions to the letter, and still no luck.
Thanks,

Alex

BTW.. if you selected more than one res in the install, you can use the CTRL-ALT-+ and CTRL-ALT-MINUS key presses to switch between resoulutions.. (PLUS and MINUS must be on the KEYPAD btw... )
