Netflix is so much better. I was in a Jewel (Midwest's Albertson's) and there was a line of probably 15 people waiting to return and rent from one of these.

Netflix is only better if you get use out of it. Many people won't so they'll save tons of money going to those Redboxes.

I try to avoid 8-9pm and usually do ok. But $1.50 adds up for something I don't want to spend on anyways, since I've got netflix. I will be cutting back on my impatience to rely more on netflix.

Redbox testing higher prices

How lucky I am to be in one of the two test markets. Haven't noticed it before, but didn't rent much over the holidays too.

Hopefully they read this and know that someone is going to be placing dead kittens near each RB in abq.

I'm not trying to make light of the serious situation you're in, but you're crying a bit too much over 50 cents. It's not like this is milk or postage, it's DVDs.

Meh, even if I only watch 12 movies a month, it's like $1.75 a movie. That $0.25 to $0.75 per rental is definitely worth it to me:
- Don't have to drive to a store, park, walk in, wait in line, etc.
- Don't have to worry about getting the movie back in the next day
- Can get older movies
- Can get television shows
- Streaming

Similar in ratio on the "how much of an inconvenience it really is" to "how much it bothered me" scale, yesterday I tried to use a promo code they emailed out the other day for a free rental and the machine kept telling me it was invalid. It was a bummer.

Fuckin A. Nothing beats Columbo on demand. It would be great if they had Jeremy Brett's Holmes and Suchet's Poirot. I don't have Netflix anymore so I don't know what they have added since I last used it over a year ago.

yeah I really only rent maybe one or two movies per month. Redbox is still a buck in Boston, so it's like 2 or 3 bucks per month vs. whatever netflix costs.

I love Redbox and am a big fan of it.

We just got Netflix a couple of months ago, and the only thing that pisses me off about it is that we did not get it sooner.

This shit rocks.

We have the one DVD out cheapo plan, but it works great for us. We do not watch much on DVD and where we get the awesome value for our dollar is the streaming we can do via the PS3.

I think Redbox is a great supplement to Netflix to be able to get that instant need for watching some new release. I see them as compatible with each other, not one supplanting the other.

+50 cents...each movie.

Considering we already have netflix, $1.50 per movie (usually getting 2 at a time...ie $3.00), it has approached being a waste of money and a poor spending choice.

Wonder how much of a choice they had. Redbox has been using the $1/night pricing for years, I'm sure they were making plenty of money with it. The movie studios are afraid of these cheap rentals cannibalizing DVD sales, though, so they're trying to put a stop to it.

i guess the good news here is that you can now buy blockbuster stock for less than a dollar.

Rebox used to be competition to blockbuster. Now blockbuster isn't even competition to redbox. :D Probably why they feel they can go to $1.50 now.

Exactly... redbox can go up to $4 a day and still beats blockbuster.

Unless blockbuster comes up with a REALLY cheap "daily" rate... redbox willl be better.

Within a mile from me, there's about 15 redbox locations. If one doesnt have the movie, one of the others will.

Yay! I get to drive all over town so I can stand in a huge line only to find out they don't have the movie I want. And then if I do find it I have to haul ass back there before my 24 hours is up or I can pay an extra dollar.

Or I can pay $4/mo to Blockbuster online and get 2 DVDs or blurays a month and not have to drive anywhere. Hmmm.

Hell, my wife has had a coupon for five free redbox rentals for almost a month and I think I've used one because their selection is such garbage. I believe it expires pretty soon, and I couldn't care less.
