Red stripe on core?!?

I recently purchased a 900 MHz Thunderbird and when I opened it up and looked at it, I noticed some VERY strange things. First, The surface of the chip looked like it had dried glue on it. Second, and more disturbing, the green core appeared more grey-green, almost more grey than green, and there are two large red stripes going diagonally across the upper right hand corner of it. Now, I' haven't tried using it yet because I'm waiting for a hard drive to arrive, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Is this a bad sign? Should I send it back to where it came from (TufShop.com)? Will they even take it back? Thanks for the information!
