Red Ring of Death

XBox, 3 days old. Two RRODs. Should I just take it back to Best Buy and demand a new console?

I'm kinda pissed because all my game data is going to be gone.

Unplugging the console seems to fix things.

I wanna say I told you so, but I don't wanna be mean. Have you at least done some google search on your own to find out what the lights mean?

What games did you end up getting btw?

PS. When you exchange dead xbox at BB, you can take out the HD and switch it on the spot.

What EXACLTY are the quadrants that are red? Just because you got red quadrants is not a RRoD.

Precisely. If it's a full ring, something wasn't hooked up properly (i.e., user error).

All red but the top right was red and the center is green. I forgot if it was flashing red.

Next time it happens, I'll double check. Both times it happened, it seemd to have happened within say 5 minutes of boot up.

I got Forza 2. Very hapy with it. And I got Bioshock even though I think I won't get to it for months since GTA4 is bing purchased next week.

I did google the lights. I'm pretty sure it's the classic RROD.

So, I should have no troubles going to Best BUy and getting a new one?

You shouldn't have problems exchanging the consoles. Forza 2 might be the one thats killing your systems as it had done to some consoles. But two in a row would be unlikely.

Well, I'm going to wait for one more "event" to see if it is due to my own fault (loose power plug, etc).

Is Forza over stressing the system or is it simply a matter of its popularity and everyone playing it that makes people perceive that it is the game causign the problems? It's funny that you say that because I got an update for Forza today.

Don't believe everything random people tell you on the internet. In the past 2 years now, everytime a somewhat high profile game (or an update) came out for the 360, there were always people on the internet saying that game killed their system when they started playing it. If you're console is red ringing, then it's the shoddy hardware, not a game.

Forza has a reputation as a 360 killer because it was packed in with a couple of million 360s last year in the "Go Pro" bundle. So, everyone had it, played it, and it just happened to be the game in the 360 when the 360 was set to die anyway.

This is what the RROD looks like on the 360.

You shouldn't have any problem exchanging the console at Best Buy. You can even request to swap the hard drives and they should give it to you.

Make sure the power brick is sitting in a way that it's getting plenty of air. I got a RROD on one of my consoles when I had my brick sitting on the carpet. I moved it to a smooth flat surface and it is fine.

I got my first RROD last week...the console worked for a couple more days, but now it freezes/gets RROD all the time. I guess I am a little bit luckier than most - mine worked for almost two years.

Same here, i had a launch xbox that never got it. I since sold that one and got an elite. I did the towel trick twice and it worked for a little bit...
