Red Lobster, is it good?

I was thinking about getting a giftcard ($40) for some relatives.
I've never been to Red Lobster, (would rather have sushi 😀) but friends tell me its not that good at all..
The closest location for me is one near Woodfield Mall in IL

They have good food there, the cheddar biscuits are awesome. I think their food is a little overpriced for what it is, but $40 is enough for 2-3 people to have a good meal.

Eh, they're good for a once a year visit *maybe*. Here, a place like that is pointless. There are so many better local fish restaurants all along the Jersey Shore.

You might be better off with Outback, their food is pretty decent. Kind of hard to screw up a steak...

I disagree. You get better tasting seafood from your local Wal-Mart. If you don't like your relatives all that well, then maybe the Red Lobster GC is a good idea.
 
We have eaten there many times, and have yet to be disappointed.
We have plenty of local seafood restaurants around here, and I think Red Lobster is just about as good as most of them.
 
If I was going to buy food gift certificates for someone, I'd buy them for Applebees. They have better a better variety of food, and more locations.

To keep with the analogies, they are like the McDonalds of "Bar & Grill" style restaurants.

for 40 bucks you should get someplace more classy like Stewart Anderson Black Angus steak house. your friends would really love that. It is what my wife and I are giving her parents for Christmas.

red lobster is my favorite restaurant. i know it sounds kooky but i'm all about big portions, cheap prices, and a nice family atmosphere....i've been to some nice restaurants when i lived in nyc - nobu, le cirque...but in the end, nothing beats the suburban red lobster 🙂

Hard to screw up steak? You must not be a big red meat fan, because it is EXTREMELY easy to screw up a steak.
