I almost ran over a pedestrian busy texting. Dashcam saved my day.
Still haven't recorded any falling meteors

Yup, I have a thread going now about dealing with my insurance Co after some maniac hit my car going 70+ in a 40 then taking off after causing $2000 worth of damage to my car. If I had a dashcam I could have gotten his tag# although me thinks he is among the 33% of FL drivers that do not have insurance.

is it %33 now? last i knew it was about %25. still high enough that the company where i worked wouldn't consider writing auto in FL.

The notation says he was using a cellphone to record this? Ive been interested in getting one for a few years now actually but have been putting it off pending a new car.

Shouldn't driver 1 get arrested or something for providing false statements to police? Or is that just my misconception

There's dash cam apps and mounts for cell phones. They have better image quality than your el cheapo Chinese dash cams, but don't have as wide a field of view. Best to just purchase a dedicated one so you can set it and forget it.

I have been looking into getting a dash cam and I found two that look pretty good: the Falcon Zero F170 and the PaPaGo GoSafe GS520. My plan was to get two of the same and have a front facing one and a rear facing that can capture the driver. The reason for the driver cam is in case there is dispute that I was on my phone when I wasn't as well as record any interaction that may happen during a traffic stop.

Yup, the main reason I got a dash cam isn't so much to show people what I saw, but to debunk liars or scam artists.

It also saved me from a cop who stated I ran a red when it was actually yellow.

it's almost always worth making that statement to keep options open for yourself

Probably due to stubborness, though I'd never admit to being in pain, even if I was bleeding profusely and missing an arm. So my insurance probably wouldn't help me much. :awe:

The G1W looked tempting to me until I see the many reports that it doesn't work below 0c. So basically I can't use it in the 6 most dangerous months of my year.

In Arkansas and New Mexico the insurance company notifies the state when your insurance gets cancelled so they can tell the cops to watch for you driving.

I need to look into one myself actually. I'm just scared that thieves see something electronic and then want to break my window to steal it. Is this something common or do most thieves know it's just a dash cam and not bother trying to steal it?

There are more discrete models like this one...

As long a you keep it close to in front of the rear view mirror they are hard to see.

Interestingly while violent crime is not really bad compared to the most places in the states, theft is pretty bad where I live. Thieves check cars in whole neighbourhoods every night to steal stuff so they can sell it for drugs. Though cops recently caught a bunch of people and I have not heard of any major theft since then so seems it slowed down.

You still have this impression that the States are plagued with violent crime.

That's pretty much just Detroit.
