Red Light Cameras and Ambulances

So today I was at a freshly red light, behind an Explorer, I see an Ambulance tear up behind us, sirens on, so I pull into the little right turn area, but the SUV is to far up to do the same, and thankfully the crossroad was empty, so the explorer pushes through, Boom, Flash, Red light camera. I was wondering how they work these things out. Is there any way the guy could prove he was getting out of the way of an abulance?
