Did they turn those red light cams on again in SD?
I thought that they have been off for the past several years.

There's PhotoBlocker which makes those cameras worthless.

KTVU (Channel 2 News in the Bay Area) had a report about people cheating toll on the bridges around here. It's the same concept. You spray your plates and then you drive right through so when the cameras take a shot at you, they don't see jack.

Yesterday I think I might've gotten caught by a camera.

There's a sign that says NO TURN ON RED (right turn), and it's a weird intersection that splits the road into 2, so it's not exactly a 90 degree right turn. Usually the green arrow is on, and in my 100 times or so of crossing this intersection and my 100 other times in riding other people's cars, I've NEVER seen it turn red. Yesterday, it turned red, and I finally figured out how. It's when a pedestrian hits the button. I was worried the pedestrian was gonan run across in front of my car, so I was busy watching her that I didnt notice the light turned red. I think I missed the light by maybe 0.1 sec or so because someone was in the lane next to me also turning (although he was slightly ahead). I know this is also a camera intersection, but usually you see a flash out of the corner of your eye. However, the cameras are focused on the people going straight I believe, not on the right split because this right split is almost never red.

Anyways, I'm not taking any more chances. I'm buying the photoblocker spray.

I've triggered the cameras 3 times in my life. Twice was at an intersection in front of my apartment that has faulty cameras. They go off randomly. Running yellows is sometimes dangerous as even if you're in the smack dab middle when it turns red, the camera goes off sometimes. But maybe that's because someone was tailing me and didn't make it through, but it's a busy intersection and sometimes it just turns yellow and red while ur in the middle cuz traffic is so slow. Sometimes it goes off when pedestrians start crossing. I've never gotten a ticket there.

The third trigger was when it was a rainy day and I saw the left turn light go green and I hit the gas only to realize I'm going straight and I was already in the middle of the intersection by the time I hit my brakes. The flash went off. It might have helped that I don't have front plates, and that I didn't keep driving because I backed right through.

So I'm praying I didn't trigger the light yesterday, but enough is enough. I never blatantly run a light. I'm getting that photoblocking crap.

Around here, we do not tolerate breaking the law and/or assisting others in doing so.

Those that do so get a vacation.

See you in a week

I saw that photoblocking stuff on mythbusters. It didn't work.

I love how the OP thinks he is right and everyone else is wrong.

the camera is designed to not catch you when you run the yellow.

It is designed to snap after the light has turned red.

They can tell based on the distance from the stop bar if the vehicle had entered the intersection while under a yellow.

Just contest the ticket. You can find more info here.

Its a camera with a pretty picture. Not to mention that most states will charge the owner of the car without regard to who was driving.

Just because they charge you doesn't mean you can't fight it. Also, other states have found that speeding ticket cameras are illegal as they often they can't prove that it was you who violated the law, just that your car did. Since you can't ticket a car, there have been successful defenses against these types of tickets. I'm not saying that this applies universally, just that it applies to at least some parts of country. Obligatory IANAL.

the owner of the car is responsbile for any drivers.

The owner can be issued the ticket for running the light and/or parking

Back in grade school there was a kid who was hit while crossing the street because of a red light driver on his way home from school and he was so severely damaged that 20 years later his intelligence level still remains that of a grade school student. The ticket is expensive and they will go after the owner for a reason...just pay it and don't ever do it again.

They have three in Fullerton, friggin blows. Yet they let drunks walk in the middle of the street in downtown. I can't believe they don't crack down on the drunkards. Maybe because it will hurt the business of all the crappy bars.
Fullerton is run by children.

Don't you ever go to neighboring Costa Mesa/Newport border. There are about 3 redlight cameras. I know of 2. One where the 55 freeway ends and I think there is also one on 17th. Irvine used to have cameras but they don't use them anymore for redlight tickets

Umm you see a yellow light as you are approaching, press the brake and stop. Is that so hard to do? Yellow doesn't mean "I'll make it if I step on the gas." A friend of mine got a $400 ticket for running a red light. Just pay the fine and stop running red lights.

Hopefully they'll make it $3610 for the jackasses who turn left on red while making oncoming traffic wait.

Especially 'poor immigrants' in lifted Escalades in 36" rims who stare you right in the eye while they do it, even if they are pulling a trailer and make no effort to get out of the way.

Yeah, I am extra careful whenever I am driving outside of Newport Beach/Irvine. Why were the redlight cameras removed from Irvine?

My sister got red light cammed, got the ticket in the mail, etc. Interestingly enough, because she was already past the crosswalk, on a yellow, when the light turned red, the judged dismissed it. He told her you have to have cleared the crosswalk before the light turns red, then it's not a violation.

Entering the intersection on yellow is not a violation.

However, should you get broadsided, you are at fault.

What if they said that jaywalking carried a $50,000 fine?

I wouldn't jaywalk.

You're a real "inside the box" thinker, aren't you? Not much of a thought process going on I gather.

In that example, did you even get a passing thought that maybe the fine was disproportionate to the crime?

Let me ask you another question: What if the government said that for your safety, your freedom of speech will be taken away? Would you resist, or would you comply like a brainless fool?

I wasn't aware Jaywalking or Running red lights were protected in the US Constitution or Bill of Rights.

So you ask about the fine, specifically asking if Anubis thinks it's reasonable. Everyone responds, pointing out the possible destruction that could be caused by your mistake, and you fly off the ****** handle at everyone, calling them fascists and idiots because they happen to feel that $361 is a fair fine for running a red light.

Do I have that about right?

If someone said that they felt that $361 is a fair fine to pay for that offense, that wouldn't anger me. At least they seem to understand the concept of a "fair fine".

What bothers me are the people who lack the critical thinking skills to understand that guilt of an offense does not equal an unlimited punishment. They think, "hey, if you don't like the fine, don't do the crime". They're simply less intelligent people which have a voice but not an understanding of the subject.
Personally, I think $361 for California is fair.
If this happened in Nebraska, Wyoming, or Alaska and he was charged $361 for it, I think you might have a point.
