Getting an opteron shipped within the comming days, and with choice of core and stepping, I thought you people could help me in my quest to pick the creme de la creme. as for core code and stepping, so fill me in on what is the best! Aiming for a 3.0GHz+ on air if possible, I've some beefy antec cooling all the cooling I'd need. Thanks!
Proc is through a guy I know on another forum, hard ocp.

cabne 0530 is awesome
cabne 0528 is awesome
cabye 0540 fpbw's seem to be just as good
cabye 0540 fpmw's are good
cabye 0540 fpaw's are hit or miss with 3.0 ghz

just gotta be sure to have a board that can do 330+ htt with these high clocking opterons since you only have 9x mult available

The board I'd be using would be either an evga sli, which is known to hang with the big boys like dfi and such, or an a8n ultra by abit. Any advice? I've ram in my possesion that can do 300+ at 3-4-4-5 2.9vish.

assuming you get an opteron 144 that can clock to 3 ghz (dunno what your goal is).... you're still gonna need ram that can do 334 assuming you want to run 1:1.

best bet is to just use a divider.

dunno too much about the evga or a8n ultra boards...

only board that consistently hits over 350+ HTT is the DFI

Hmm, Well, my limit is whatever i can o/c to without causing a forest fire or flash soldering it in my mobo. I've a zalman 7700alcu so air cooling should not be an issue in an antec p180. 3.0, sure, 3.2+ I'd love to!

don't expect 3.2 on air to be 24/7 stable.

any of the cabye 0540's are capable of 2.9 with voltage bump.

3.0 is hit or miss. 3.1 is possible but rare (this is talking about 24/7 stability, not superpi 1M or 32M or OCCT).

If nothing else, breaking the 3ghz barrier for me with an amd chip would be fun. A bit zippy too, sience my winchester 3200 went to 2.6 no prob, not that sluggish..
