I found this at "Fatty Wallet" (original Thread):

$20, $75, and $100 Rebates on 3Com PC cards

OfficeConnect® $20 Mail-In Rebate:
3Com OfficeConnect® 10/100 LAN PC Card with XJACK Connector - 3CXSH572BT, 3CXSH572AP, 3CXSH572JP
3Com OfficeConnect 10/100 LAN PC Card - 3CCSH572BT
3Com OfficeConnect 10/100 CardBus PC Card - 3C3SH573BT

$75 Mail-In Rebate On Select PC Cards:
3Com Megahertz® 10 Mbps LAN PC Card with XJACK® Connector - 3CXE589ET, 3CXE589AP, 3CXE589JP
3Com Megahertz 10 Mbps LAN PC Card - 3CCE589ET
3Com Megahertz® 10/100 LAN+56K Global Modem PC Card - 3CCFEM556B

$100 Mail-In Rebate On Select PC Cards:
3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN+56K Global Modem CardBus PC Card with Autosensing XJACK Connector - 3CXFEM656C
3Com 10/100 LAN+56K Global Modem CardBus Type III PC Card - 3C3FEM656C

Until here nothing very special but when I checked the prices at pricewatch I found a neat surprise:

3Com OfficeConnect® 10/100 LAN PC Card with XJACK Connector - 3CXSH572BT, 3CXSH572AP, 3CXSH572JP -> $60,?,? (-$20 rebate)
3Com OfficeConnect 10/100 LAN PC Card - 3CCSH572BT ->$ 58
3Com OfficeConnect 10/100 CardBus PC Card - 3C3SH573BT ->?
3Com Megahertz® 10 Mbps LAN PC Card with XJACK® Connector - 3CXE589ET, 3CXE589AP, 3CXE589JP (Not interesting, too slow)
3Com Megahertz 10 Mbps LAN PC Card - 3CCE589ET (Not interesting, too slow) -> $ 32 (-$75rebate) !!!!
3Com Megahertz® 10/100 LAN+56K Global Modem PC Card - 3CCFEM556B -> $ 60 (- $75 rebate) !!!!
3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN+56K Global Modem CardBus PC Card with Autosensing XJACK Connector - 3CXFEM656C -> $ 149 (-$100 rebate)
3Com 10/100 LAN+56K Global Modem CardBus Type III PC Card - 3C3FEM656C -> $ 194 (-$100 rebate)

I'm not interested in the 10Mb but the 10/100 w/modem....is tempting...

That price is for a OEM version and I'm not sure that that's good for the rebate, but 3Com does not specify on that.

I would like to here somebody's opinion before I buy anything.

Hi! :)

Just as a quick note - I peered at the rebate forms and they seem to be worded quite strangely. They require a reseller invoice and have a required line which asks for "Federal ID# (company)" The other thing that seemed slightly odd was that they are only honoring the first 685 $20 rebates, 2253? $75 rebates, and 2,700 $100 rebates. ???

However, if it ends up working, would be quite a deal! :D They just have such oddly worded rebate slips. :( Hope things work out!

Cheers,
Andy

Limited number of claims and authorized resellers make the rebate very iffy.

If they trashed your rebate material, you can submit photocopy.
But if they claim they already receive maximum number of claims, what's your recourse?

ok.. i'm way confused on this...

do i have to be a reseller?
can i just go to best buy (for example) and buy one of these cards and send in the rebate?

that is probably the strangest rebate deal i have heard.. very confusing.

Based on the description above these rebates are strictly for resellers. The federal number they're asking for is a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) which only a business is likely to have. It's a way of them clearing out wholesale inventory without actually dropping the wholesale price.

This is my understanding of the rebate form - (1) valid only if bought from a reseller (2) valid only if YOUR business/company is buying the items (no individuals). Of course, the most iffy part is the fact they limit the number of rebates. This can only mean hassles... One recourse to reduce your risk would be to buy using AMEX Blue - if you don't get the rebate within 60 days, you can return the item.

This is correct. We got this offer a month or so ago. You need to be a 3Com reseller to get the rebate. Don't try to do it if you're not, otherwise you'll get screwed.

I don't know about the reseller part, but I'll that
if you try to do this deal with "Joe's wholesale computer closeouts"
as found on Pricewatch, you're gonna get screwed...

These rebates are almost always only for retail product purchased
from licensed resellers. Which almost no one on Pricewatch is.

The coupons are for end user customers only. See #3 of the Terms and Conditions.

Link to coupon

Edit: But then they require Federal ID# of business/company. I think this means if you are a business and buying the PC cards to use (not for resell) then you can use these coupons.
