Hello there.
I like to boot to the prompt in Linux (RH 6.2) however, when I type "startx", as expected, the Gnome GUI is started. Is there a way I can get it to load KDE instead??? as I prefer it over Gnome.
Thanks in advance

Create a file in your home directory which will contain the command "startkde" (without the quotes).Save it as .xinitrc.In this way when you startx (or better startx -bpp 16 so you will have 16bit High color) it will start KDE.In this way you may start any windowmanager you want.Just change the .xinitrc to contain the command which starts the windowmanager (wmaker for WindowMaker, afterstep for Afterstep, gnomesession for Gnome etc.).

There should also be a switchdesktop or switchdesk program that does everything for you. It changes your default window manager to whatever you choose from it, I know at least KDE is under it. You could also use xdm or gdm which are desktop managers. Then you can choose whatever desktop you want.
