Red Hat and ATI video card

Ok so I have a AIW 7500 card and can't seem to get X to work at all, during install I can't get any of the test configs to work and I'm noticing there's not a whole lot of support for ati cards and linux...

Anywhere I can find drivers for this or anything?

same thing happened to me......I just tried out every card similar to mine...until I hit the jackpot...

something else....

DON't NOT CONTINUe to test the xserver display modes so you at least finish the instal completely....

Then once you load up....

Use XFree86 to configure the xwindows ystem...

THe second method is better becuase everything is installed and you can at least run stuff in the commmand prompt...add drives etc...access the net through Lynx or whatever that bowser is called

Why dont you try that one again? 😛

Forget X. CLI is the way to go. If you need a gui, load the system cli and configure X manually (either using vi or using one of the config scripts). Also, update to RedHat 7.3 or upgrade to XF86 4.2.0. Email ATI about drivers.

It is 7.3 and on ATIs page it says they don't have any drivers for it.

Unless anyone has a better solution (and the previous suggestions arent working), my final piece of advice is: buy better hardware next time.

Right...200$ video card sucks. Funny, it works great under windows...maybe I'll stick with a better OS? =)

Just because you pay more for it does not mean it is better. I paid *MUCH* less for my Matrox cards and they work fine...

Windows and Linux are different. Sorry to inform you.

Can you find one? Blame ATI. They havent written drivers and it sounds like they didnt release enough specs for someone else to write drivers. Ill stop there because I dont want to huwt your wittle feelings 🙂

EDIT: You are using XF86 4.2 right? Its looking like the ATI 7500 is supported (by some posts I see in google.com/linux searches)

EDIT2: 4.2.0:
Accelerated support is provided for Mach64, Rage, Rage 128 and Radeon chips by the "ati" driver, as is unaccelerated support for all of the others except the Mach8 and some early Mach32 chips.

ya ati is losing mucho market share for not supporting linux. Lots of people like to experiment with other OS's so why don't they just buy a card that will work on Linux and Windows (like NVIDIA). Most people do. You sould do some more research before shelling out money to companies, escially with non-windows OS's some manufacturers are just to lazy to support anything else.

Because most companies dont provide enough support. Thats why I buy Matrox 😀
