How is Red Hat 9 v Mandrake 10.1. I'm currently running on Mandrake 10.1 and this is my first distribution. I was at the library today and picked up a book on Red Hat 9 that included the free publisher's edition and was wondering if maybe I should try it out. Would anyone suggest this as a good idea, removing Mandrake and using Red Hat? What are the most significant differences, if any, and would there be any reasons not to? Just expirimenting with Linux as I'm kind of sick on XP. I'm currently running a Win XP Pro SP2/Mandrakelinux 10.1 dual boot.

Redhat 9 is obsolete/unsupported. You only realy want to run it if you have to.

If you want a more modern Redhat version check out Fedora Core3, buy a Redhat WS version, or download a copy of CentOS (free redhat clone.. there are others.)
