Red Hat 9 Server issues...

I just did a fresh install of linux red hat 9.0 with very limited options set as the box will only be used as a small server. Besides, I only had 2 gigs to play with. In any event, install went fine.

Went into /etc/innit.d, started kudzu to recognize my 3com card, manually set the ip, netmask, subnet, and nameserver. After this I went and started network and httpd (apache) without any problems. Unfortunately, the computer has no activity whatsoever on my router.

My buest guess at this point is that because my router has dhcp enabled, I should have done the same with the ethernet card rather than manually setting the info. Would the router be unable to recognize the server because of this?

I am a newbie with red hat so I could be completely unaware about something. Please let me know if this is the case. Any comments, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this server is supposed to be online by tonight so someone can begin uploading files into it.

Do I need to start other services to make this happen? If so, which ones. I just need to get my router to recognize the server, then I can worry about port forwarding, yay!

Thanks in advance,
jd
