Red Hat 9 issues with NIC

I just installed RH9 on this system yesterday. Its a P4C 2.4Ghz with an Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard. Under Win2k, the integrated 3Com Gigabit ethernet chip works perfectly. Under RH9, RH is unable to detect/probe for the NIC. On the motherboard CD, there are linux drivers.

I follow the installation instructions in the readme, they go as follows.

1. Ensure the kernal data is stored in /usr/src/linux 2.4 ( which does not exist under Rh9, even when logged in as root)
2. Copy tar.gz to hard drive
3. Unpack tar, then change to directory.
4. Type "Make Load"

Then it gives so configuration instructions. I am able to unpack it without issues, but when I type Make Load, it gives several error messages. I only understand gcc: Command not Found. I looked in the 'makefile' of the unpacked tar. Its got several lines detailing where the kernal data is, which is the /usr/src/linux. I attempted to check the directory, but it does not exist in RH9.

Anybody know how to get this NIC to function?

And does anybody know where to get some linux drivers for a Radeon 9600 Pro?

Well.. /usr/src/linux 2.4 doesn't appear because you don't have your source installed.. hence the src. Go to "start here" on your desktop and click add remove.. choose the kernel source and development packages.. once you install those.. the source should be there and you NIC installation might work..

I don't know of ANY 9600 Pro drivers.. I may be wrong.. I know that drivers for the 9500 Pro are avaliable now but it only supports 2D...

Why don't you install everything . Then use a $10 nic (linksys), to get all your updates from RHN.

Then see if the latest kernel supports the mobo nic.

Good luck
