My 21" $1600 5 year old monitor is in fairly good shape except red barely shows up- it's rapidly faded away over a period of a couple weeks. Green and Blue colors are fine.

Does anyone have experience with trying to get this fixed? Or is it not repairable?

Gosharks will probably see this and respond in awhile I would imagine.

My guess is that if it is the gun, probably not (or at least not in a way that makes economic sense), but if it's just a damged PCB somewhere on the monitor, then probably could be fixed (but still for a nice $$$).

Good news is 21" CRTs don't cost $1,600 anymore. After 5 years of intensive use, its reaching the end of its useful like anyways. Time to check out the new ViewSonics :)

<< Yeah, tried all of that... it's definitely the display gun. >>

Okay, based on your diagnosis, even though you'd pay probably $500 or so, its very easy to repair. CRT, short for cathode ray tube, is the big heavy glass tube in your monitor. All the guns, shadow mask, screen surface and any other damage within the glass envelope can not be repaired and must be replaced. Just remove the cathode ray tube and install a new one. Don't come whining to me if it doesn't work though, because the only reason it wouldn't work is if your diagnosis was faulty to begin with.
