Ok, last night, i tried burning some cd-r's, PNY, to be exact. The color of the cd-r's are red. WEll, i tried burning some data on them last night, and to my surprise, they dont' burn too well..

It isnt' my burner because after it wouldn't work, i used regular Imation cd-r's to burn the same data again, and it worked. Then i tried using the red cd-r's again, and it won't work.=

It does do a complete job and nero says it is done. But when the cd-r drive or the dvd drive try to read it, it has a very hard time reading it.

Can anybody diagnose this problem for me?

i have some of those colored pny discs also. i haven't had any problem burning them with my plextor 12x or lite-on 32x, but i have to say they are very low quality. after about a couple weeks in my car, the songs started skipping and i noticed that bubbles start to form on the data side of the disc. they may look cool, but the quality isnt that great. too bad i have 200 more of them stacked away in my closet.

Your burner may just be picky, mine doesn't like ANY PNY discs, I use verbatim, sony and fuji.

I haven't tried those yet, the ones that I picked up from OfficeMax have a problem with the CD player in my car though...

PNY discs are low quality. It's nott jus the red dye.

I try to stick to Memorex, Imation, Sony, TDK. Those are all very good brands.

Stick with the CD manu houses that make good discs... packagers like TDK, Sony, etc change their suppliers and that sometimes results in much crappier disks.
There's a reason why some people on AT only buy Taiyo Yuden produced disks.

My preferred manu houses are, in order of preference, TY, Kodak (gold/platinum esp), CMC Magnetics... I use Riteks and other (non-Japan) Asian manus for junk CDRs. They have a failure rate that's plain unacceptable... sometimes they don't even take a burn correctly.

Silver is the highest quality dye. All other colors are inferior, at least for the past 5 years.

I use Mitsui silvers. They're unbranded and rated quite well.

Aren't they on the expensive side?

As to your question WayneTeK, besides the red PNY CDR's, have you had any issues w/ other colored PNY CDR's?

Yeap, i used the silver colored ones and they are work great. haven't had a single problem with them. It seems that the colored ones are a problem to my Lite-On 48x Cd-rw burner.

I have never really had a problem with any brand of cd-r's in any of my burners I have had over the years accepting burns.

Only problem I have ever really had is popping up now. Most of the CD's I burned in college (1998-1999) are now unreadable. the ToC can be read, but that is about all. They are all sony disks with blue/green (DARK!) coloring that were burned in a 2x mitsumi (I think) burner.

I agree on all but Memorex. Had trouble with them (tend to lose data with time sooner than others). Strange, for my burner (NEC) all the brands (and non-brands) burn equally well, be it SKC, Samsung, Emtec or what not. Even non-branded CDRs burn quite well.

Mitsu is suppose to be higher rated than TY, but I haven't been able to test any of them.

On a silver disc, the dye isn't silver - it's clear. You're seeing the reflective layer through the clear dye.
