Heard great things about this show but am pretty intimidated by the vast amount of seasons out there. Do I need to start at season 1, or can I jump to say season X? Any recommendations on where to start??

umm, season 1?

Ya its a lot, I've only been through 3 or 4 myself. Then I heard they even did a reunion episode like 15 years later.

The episodes arent all independent, a lot of the jokes/storylines are based on things set up in previous episodes, so you might as well go in order.

There aren't that many episodes per season, so start at the beginning.

The characters get a lot better after the first season, so just stick with it. It won't take long to get to the good stuff.

I applaud you for wanting to watch Red Dwarf, it is the only British comedy I have actually found funny. That said, it is probably best to start at the beginning, however the characters really, really suck until a season or two later.

Yeah season 1, then watch them all. the show is awesome!

I bought the reunion on Blu-Ray. Its called Back to Earh. Wasn't as good as the regular show was though.

I never get why people want to start watching a show several seasons in. Even if the earlier seasons aren't that great, you'll be missing out on a lot of stuff.

Well, a show like South Park doesn't necessarily need to be watched from beginning to end (non-serial plot) or say Seinfeld - the first season was pretty mediocre, but things really pick up season 2. I'm the type who wouldn't watch 12 episodes of an old show to wait until it gets good, so I was wondering if the 2nd season of the show was strong than the first.

Well the first season is indeed pretty bad, but with only 50-60 thirty minute episodes total, it's not a huge commitment.

Yoyo is right: there are 55x 30 minute epidsodes in Seasons 1 to 9.

You may also find Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers funny. Both are classic British sitcoms.

Remember that English seasons for older sitcoms are much shorter than current-day American seasons (usually up to about 7 episodes per season)

you can't really follow red dwarf without watching the 1st episode to really understand what's going on.

you may also like Keeping up Appearances if you like British comedies. some of the situations Hyacinth gets herself in are just off the wall.

Red Dwarf is my favorite drunk time TV program. I have all of the DVD's for the original series, and I have seen the Back to Earth reunion that was done last year, but it was not that good.
