The Red Bull races are here in Windsor / Detroit, they're going to be racing this weekend. I saw / heard one of the planes doing a practice run so I thought I'd head down to the river...

anyone ever seen these races in person?! the pilot / plane was amazing!! wow

I really want to go, but I cannot imagine the hoards of people. I thought about going over to "your" side to see them. Looks pretty awesome from the commericals!

When I lived in Corpus Christi, we lived across the bay from a naval air training station. I loved being able to sit out on my back deck and watch the air shows for free. No air plane races though.

I went to the San Diego race this year and although there were alot of people, there really wasn't a lack of space for watching the race. The venue was large enough to support all the people that were there.

To the OP: It's a pretty awesome experience. Definitely worth the money you pay. At the end of the San Diego show, they had military aircraft do flybys which was just a cherry on top. I have some pictures that I'll put up later.

Lucky! it is a beautiful mall for sure. And, just so you know, that Bath and Bodyworks is THE nicest I can think of anywhere in MI.
Do you ever go to Great Lakes Crossing? More of an outlet mall, but still some good shops. There is a Bath and Body Works there as well as an awesome Victoria's Secret Outlet store. (It is like their Semi-Annual Sale all year!) ;)

i was quite impressed by how sharp the plane could turn, and the sheer velocity of the thing. the pilot must have been quite experienced. he did some tricks not related to the race, like the climb straight up / freefall one where it looks like the plane has lost power, and then straightened it out and went DIRECTLY at the water!!! he pulled up at the last second. and the way he tips the wings to go through the pylons, WOW! i might come down this weekend to check it out!

I want to see these air races as well. Mike in the Morning Show on WRIF, they have been talking about the Redbull Air Racing all week. I checked earlier to see if their was any ticket left for the detroit side, all sold out of the $15 ticket. Looks like i'll be watching this on tv.

I was thinking of going, but I've driven down to Detroit the last 2 weekends (I'm in Lansing) and don't feel like doing it a 3rd in a row. Its also a pricier drive now with gas prices.

Maybe I'll hit the boat races instead whenever those are.

Yeah well the Thunderbirds are here and they were practicing today too!

Still I wish I could be there.
