wow... insane. It'll be interesting how it competes w/ the DSLRs. It feels as if it's still much more a video camera than still camera.

It looks like a Man's Camera - very rugged dSLR haha. I'm very interested to see how it performs as a camera as well. Can't wait to get my hands on a Scarlet! :D

The price is nothing. 3K Digital starting at $2500...get a part-time job and save up a bit each week until the Scarlet is released and anyone can afford it. I mean...this is what digital is all about to me - freedom. Extra resolution so you can crop and use the Smoothcam filter. Pure digital for easy workflow - drag and drop the video files to your computer to edit. No tapes to worry about or purchase. Makes my heart skip a beat :)

i wonder if they have a partner providing lens designs for them, or if canon really is that lazy? (the fact that leica basically designed a whole new lens system recently tells me that canon really is that lazy)

Makes sense, it'd be kind of dumb to have a 4mp dSLR in this day & age (3K Scarlet). Although no 120fps :( Option B looks like the one for me, can't wait to see more info on their lenses...

A bit too complicated for me, but kudos for RED offering a truly professional grade cinema solution for $3k.

Kudos indeed but that $3k isn't going to mean jack sh!t as you can't do anything with it in reality. You will need the rest of the kit to make it work and is upwards of $1-2k minimum. But the quality should be stunning.

It's for a different market.

Cinema focus with stills.

Yeah from what I've read, your basic "starter" kit is going to run about $4K. But still...sheesh. I think this is going to give a lot more creative control to artists to express their vision, especially indies and home users. Instead of having to fight the equipment, it's now as simple as learning how to use a point-and-shoot digital camera (relatively speaking). One man can make his own movie now - film, drag and drop to your computer, edit, output. There is a HUGE amount of indie support too, both from big companies and little startups. I have a $200 Zoom H2 mic that sounds as good as anything you'd hear on TV or in movies. You can buy jibs, fluid-head tripods, and skater, swivel, and slider dollies for hundreds of dollars or for just a few thousand.

Not to mention how this will affect productions with actors and such - no more worrying about tape and digital conversions or complex editing systems (because it's all digital), cost of renting (because you can purchase), and so on. $1200 gets you Final Cut Studio 2, which is more than enough to go to town on for indie stuff. Oh man...I'm just so dang excited about this lol :D
