Red Alert! Stay Away from 845w/PC133!

Go to Tom's to read his review on 845 w/PC133. Sad, often in the 7-12% slower in SysMark 2001, and up to 25% IN QUAKE III AND OTHER 3D GAMES!?! than 850 w/PC800. Come on Intel, kick Rambus to Timbuktu and GIVE US 845 WITH DDR!

Ouch, so much for that :Q

<< I personally would consider everyone as close to crazy if he should choose Pentium 4 plus i845 and PC133 SDRAM. Intel will try to use the blue men and the rest of its marketing machine to capitalize on the Pentium 4 nametag for i845-systems. However, this sad performing solution is just another sign that Intel is running out of ideas. I have to say that I am more than tired of half-baked solutions that are sold as new products.

Why does nobody at Intel have the guts to come out with the obviously functional i845 for DDR? Pentium 4 sales are far from great right now and I don't see how i845 with PC133 is supposed to change that. Intel will continue making a fool out of itself if it continues to hold on to the sinking Rambus ship instead of showing some guts and release i845 with DDR-SDRAM. Dear Pam Pollace, please spare us with even more 'Blue Men' commercials that try to sell i845 to the poor uninformed masses, and tell your bosses that they should try coming up with reasonable products instead.

Damn! Not that it wasn't expected though. P4 needs high bandwidth to make use of its massive 3.2 GB/s bandwidth.

Yeah, was expected, but still now we have numbers to prove it.

P.S. Yeah, that's part of why I stopped going to Tom's often, because of his biases against Intel.

How much better do you think i845 with DDR SDRAM will perform? Also one interesting benchmark Tom ran was Sandra Memory Stream (although I wish he could have ran the original stream instead). It shows that the memory bandwidth of this PC133 chipset is the highest of all PC133 chipsets, including the Athlon chipsets. Not that it helps much though 🙂

Too bad he didn't run Cachemem or any other benchmark that shows memory latency, that would have been interesting too.

I nearly died of laughter reading this paragraph 😉

<< I wonder if Intel's wacky P4 television commercial is symbolizing what goes on in the brains of Intel's decision makers. In medical school I learned about the effects of LSD and other hallucinogens, and the blue, white and orange stuff that Intel's puts on our television screen seems to be rather close to the visual experiences you have after heavy consumption of the just mentioned drugs. Let's be honest, what else could possibly explain Intel's recent decision to launch a 'value' Pentium 4 chipset that chains its 'netbursting' super processor to the good old PC133 SDRAM memory? Crack pipe or what? >>

Well what do you want him to say? He's just disgusted with Intel's products and wants them to spend more on creating a better product rather than buying airtime for their blue man group commercials.

I hate it when you have people talking about what is this and that and never had the money to own what they talking about. All they can do is dream.I have a P4 and it runs great (also a P3 933) and if you don't have one get a damn job that pays more money. These people that do the reviews are useing sothware that is not even made for P4,s but it still holds the line.AMD is nothing but a headache for the people to set up with all the diff MB crap you haft to go through just to get them to run, everthing has to be perfect. When the sothware come,s down the pike which is made for the P4,s 400 fsb you want have nothing to slam except your overheated AMD.BTW all you could hear was 200 FSB when AMD came out with it,now you don't say crap about the higher Intel 400fsb because you out of words to match it.Things has to change to make way for the better products and people should no this.If they don't you will always be bitching about what could have been.If you want an AMD get one as I did a P4 but quit talking about how damn slow P4,s are,and on top of that you know crap because you can't afford one unless you use plastic, and I don't recommend that for either Chip.Because prices change to much,if you charge it you will be paying for stuff that is 1/3 the value of what you paid a month before.AMD should give a 2 for one sell and really dig themselves into a hole.

bitter? wasted money on a p4? hmmmmm?

So if we don't plunk down more than twice the price for a P4 processor, we're not worthy???:Q

<< and if you don't have one get a damn job that pays more money. >>

Give me a friggin' break. I guess us "poor people" who don't buy P4's are b!tch a$$ losers?:Q

Well spank my a$$ and call me Charlie.

Sounds like someone is bitter b/c they paid too much for a P4 that gets beat 75% of the time by an Athlon.

Anyway, I don't think that Intel was the only one doing LSD according to Tom's quote 😉

It must come free to any Intel customer...

No, not just any Intel customer. Intel customers are usually cool, but not the ones that are stuck up yuppies who look down on anyone without a P4 as cow feces on the bottom of your shoe.

I'm gonna say my piece, but only once.

In the real life, I do not know any avid Intel customer/user/builder who has their facts straight so to speak. Not that the aren't "cool," just not knowing what they about what they speak. There probably exist some Intel people with information, just none that I know.

Wingnut PEZ comes to mind. He works for Intel and he is one of the coolest, most knowledgeable people on this board. He's very helpful and doesn't spread FUD.

wow, I am speechless. money=knowledge, i'll be sure to teach my children that one.

Someone wet his diaper😉

You'd probably make more sense if you did a little cut and paste for yourself. How about starting with English 101...😉
