Recycling Old PC Parts

Hey guys,

I was upgrading my sister computer over last weekend. I switched out her older socket 939 cpu and mobo. So now I have this old motherboard and processor sitting in my garage. I doubt there is any resale value for a 3200+ amd 939 proc and mobo.

I don't want to just shove these into my trash can. I am not sure where to head to try and recycle these. Do you guys know where to go?

I live in the Los Angeles area.

Don't waste it!

That's probably a better CPU and MOBO than what I have in my file server (A recycled old gaming rig AMD 3000 Socket 754). You could probably sell it on Craigslist.org for about $50 for the CPU and MOBO. Do you have RAM? That's probably worth about $20 for 1 GB.

One can try to find recyclers through the Take <- Back campaign's website. Their standards are rather high, however (ie not shipping them to China to be hacked apart by ex-peasants in a dump full of lead and PCB dust), so it can be somewhat difficult to find a recycler near you. None in New Jersey or in the city of New York.

Your kit is much more recent (and more usable) than some of the kit I'm thinking of junking (333 MHz Celeron, anyone?). I'm sure you could find someone willing to use it.

Is the best option in cases like the OP's to put it up free (or nearly free) on Craigslist?

I agree, in this case, if you know they are working, sell them.
In my town, for junk items, like tv and pcs, the local recycling
center takes them. Not sure where they go from there.
