Hi,

First off, I hope this is in the right forum, because I was not sure where else to post this.

I've got a treasure trove of various odds and ends of computer... err... parapha... err... compon... err... junk.

Rather than throw the bits into the trash I was hoping to find some advice on where to go to recycle old computers and computer components:

- Hard drives
- PCB boards
- Dead Monitors
- Dead external modems
- etc.

Has anyone heard of E.R.A. (Electronic Recycling Association)? Does anyone know of a couple of organizations that I could check out, preferably in Canada.

If it can be recycled, why not? It creates more jobs and a new industry, and opportunities rather than ending up in a landfill polluting.

Thanks :)

The only other place I have found is reBOOT which is located around the Eastern region of Canada.

Anyone got any lines on any other organizations?

Yes. My robotics team needs parts. Put them in a box, and ship them to us - we can assure you they'll be used!

I recently saw this on the news. This is become the norm. You should be able to find an PC recycler in your area. If not, you could always give the old PCs to a charity or some other organization that could use them. Some non profits can benefit from what you consider to be junk. :)

Ive done that in the past but recently even some charities and orgs wont take old equipment, they claim its too old and useless even if its free!

Please see the post above - we're a nonprofit, we can give you a tax deduction, and we're desperate.

Any questions?

I did turn an older pentium I box into a NAS storage device with NASlite+, but I have:

-486SX HP desktop
-various ISA cards
-3Com adsl dual link modem (not working)
-4 VGA monitors (working and non)
-Numerous old EDO ram sticks (some only being 4MB)
-IBM specific speakers for an Aptiva PI series'
-ETC.

I do recall seeing non-profits and charity organizations not needing a 486 and the like. I do recall seeing some organizations that take the old, and I mean OLD PCs and strip the raw materials out of them for the gold, lead, and what not.

Anyways, I'll keep an eye out for more organizations.
