recycling dilemma

i have a computer case from around 2000 that's made of steel (i think it's steel). i am wanting to recycle it because i care about recycling. at the same time though, if i can make some money out of it, it would be too cool.

here's the dilemma: i called a few recycling companies around town that buy scrap metal and they all quoted me around $4 per 100 pounds of steel. my computer case is about 13 pounds - which means i would only get 52 cents. the gas it takes to drive my car to the recycling company isn't worth 52 cents, not to mention the time it takes to drive there.

at the same time, i would hate to just give it away for free to the city recycling people (i'm trying to get entrepreneurial). note: i already stripped it of any plastic it had. any ideas?

thanx

Steel is worth virtually nothing. You're not going to get much for it unless you can sell it as an actual computer case to someone who needs one.

even though I wasn't supposed to, I put the old cases I've gotten rid of into our city recycling

I figure they're in a better place to deal with it than I was.

give it away for free $4 wouldn't be worth the time an effort to move 100lbs of steel to the scrap yard

I agree.
