Recycling a printer

I have a printer that no longer works and they say can't be repaired without high cost.

What's the best option for disposal? So far, best is Staples free recycling.

A lot of times printer manufacturers, such as HP, offer programs where you can recycle an old printer (doesn't have to be working) and receive a rebate towards a new printer.

I did this once and got $50 off a new printer by sending in a non-working printer.

Thanks for the tip, I remember Canon offered it on one (not sure if the old printer was needed or even accepted), but it didn't seem to beat sale prices.

Also, already got the new printer.

OK, got 2. Have to pick one to use.

Best Buy does it too, although their policy is supposed to charge $10 per item in exchange for a $10 gift card. You could say it's free, but they just want you to buy something at some point. I've done it a few times and only asked to pay the fee once.

That seems reasonable, although they should also make it no hassle if you have a recent Best Buy receipt to prove you bought something there in the past.
