A lot of times printer manufacturers, such as HP, offer programs where you can recycle an old printer (doesn't have to be working) and receive a rebate towards a new printer.
I did this once and got $50 off a new printer by sending in a non-working printer.
Staples is a good choice, they also take computers and monitors.

Best Buy does it too, although their policy is supposed to charge $10 per item in exchange for a $10 gift card. You could say it's free, but they just want you to buy something at some point. I've done it a few times and only asked to pay the fee once.
that's peculiar...Ya, it's just I have two old CRT's not working (NEC 21" that cost like $2300 for one) that I don't want to get rid of for sentimental reasons... try to get them fixed though.
Staples policy is way better and doesn't have any bullshit rebates. That seems reasonable, although they should also make it no hassle if you have a recent Best Buy receipt to prove you bought something there in the past.
