I'm running XP home with all updates. My recycle bin icon always indicates empty even when there are files in it. When I open it, all the deleted files are present, and can be restored or permanently deleted as I wish. In other words the recycle bin is functioning properly, exept for the icon always showing empty. Any ideas? TIA

Sounds like the icon for "full" is set the to the icon for "empty."

Right-click desktop, properties.
Desktop tab, Customize desktop at the bottom.
Either "restore defaults" or click on 'Recycle Bin (Full)' and "Change icon."

Hope that works...

This happened frequently on my old computer running Win98. I just shrugged it off, as it still functioned corretly. :p

Shell32.dll file in the System32 directory is possibly corrupted.

You can check by running the SYSTEM FILE CHECKER -- scannow /sfc
