Rectal and Breast Exams

I was just talking to my friend who is in his first year of med school. He and his classmates have to give each other rectal and breast exams so that they know how a patient will feel. Aside from the bizarrity of it all, how is a male doctor supposed to understand what a female patient would feel during a breast exam by giving one to a female classmate?

I am assuming you are an EMT by your handle. Do you have to perform breast exams and rectal exams? I thought EMT's did emergency medicine only.
 
I realize that my story isn't related to your post but, I remember getting a 5-year physical exam while I was in the Navy,

My flight surgeon was female, and she grabbed my sack and told me cough and stuck her finger in my bunghole as part of the exam.:Q

Paramedic, not EMT. No breast/rectal exams but we do insert breathing tubes, examine the v@gina if birth is imminent, needle chests, put in naso-gastric tubes, administer medicines rectally if needed, etc.

Paramedics do more than you think.

Ok. What is the difference between a paramedic and an EMT? I didn't mean to offend you if I did, I just didn't know there was a difference.

usually they don't test on each other, they have paid volunteer test patients. just did pelvic and breast exams last week. ugh.

As a patient there is nothing like having a doctor come in and do "Digital Rectal Exam" and then ask if the 4 interns that are trailing behing him if they could also have a go. 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱
