Recruiting Threads slipping

I have noticed that the recruiting threads are slipping from their stickied positions in some of the other forums.

Do we want to ask the Mod(s) to keep them up, or have they served their purpose for now?

The Mod(s) will be watching our responses here.

Edited to reflect new thinking:

Stickies at the top of the page should have info(or links to info) on all of the projects TA is involved with. 🙂

Broadband Reports Front Page

AnandTech Front Page

Yeah, the sticky for one month in a few of the other forums is all we need to overcome the Front Page efforts by BBR. :|

Sure, we have a link to "Team AnandTech" but it is in bottom half of the front page that doesn't show up unless you scroll down.

New members have dried up since the DC Promotion Sticky has been allowed to drop. That thread should be permanent.

Real BBR Front Page

I see no link off of DSL Reports front page unless you select the Clubs link. Anandtech actually appears to have more of a front page link.

I know that BBR is crunching tons and tons of WU's, but if you take out Bandai, they wouldn't be all that strong compared to TA.

I would like to see the threads "stickied" back up top, but I don't agree with the complaining about the front pages.

Michael, you are correct about the "real" BBR Front Page. I forgot I clicked their convenient link located right at the top/left of their Front Page which gives links to each of their DC TEAMS. However, the fact remains that you still must scroll to the bottom half of the AnandTech Front Page to find the link to "Team AnandTech". We need to get "our" link moved to the top of the Front Page.

I might add that each new registrant of Broadband Reports Forums gets a welcome message encouraging them to join the Distributed Computing Team. This has been a long time request of the AnandTech Forums that has gone unfulfilled.

A letter has been sent to Anand asking for more support of the DC Teams that bear his name. We are waiting for a response. BTW this letter, though initiated by the SETI TeAm at our offsite forum, was sent on behalf of all the Distributed Computing Projects/Teams and not just for SETI.

Let's also not get carried away with the idea that BBR is just Bandai. That may have been more the case a few months back, but they have grown and they have a more big guns producing over 200 WU/day than we do even if you don't count Bandai. Also they have more members overall than we do and they have a higher active percentage than we do. Without Bandai they would still be gaining on us just not as fast.

In fairness to the other projects that TA has a presence in, any sticky or announcement should include info on *** ALL *** of the projects that this Team is a part of, not just SETI. 😉

I thought the stickies in question did include every team? To be honest I didn't really look at them so did I miss something?

I think that the stickies need to stay. I have not seen them either and would hope they include every project. I also agree that every person that signs up for AT should get a welcome e-mail also asking to join one of our projects.

Those threads have been very effective at spurring interest and getting new members to join the teams, especially UD and SETI from what I've seen. They were effective up until the time they started to fall and for that reason I believe they would be effective if put up again.

Sent a PM to the nice & considerate mods advising them of the feelings in this thread. Let us hope for positive results.

The thank-you thread in Forum issues exists, however, additional support will be appreciated

Well, here's the poop on how SETI fared from the recruiting threads:

6/19/2002 - 6/30/2002... 15 new members 🙂
7/1/2002 - 7/31/2002... 75 new members :Q
8/1/2002 - 8/7/2002... 18 new members 🙂

Any other stats for the other DC projects.

Will provide more ammo to justify stickies at top.

I don't know what the actual stats are, but the F@H team has gained an impressive number of TeAmmates in just the past couple of months. 🙂 Our F@H team currently stands at 145 members with 169 processors active in the past week. 🙂 And if you don't count all of the "anonymous" users in the project, we're now ranked 17th in the world! 😀

A Mod has stated that this thread and our concerns will be forwarded to the big boss.

Keeping up the positive need for sticky comments, may allow them to return to the top where they belong.
