Recruiting for a Clan/Team...

I'm thinking about trying to recruit members for my clan, which does CS:S, SCCT, maybe WoW in the future. I also know my friend is firing up a clan and he might need help recruiting as well. Anyway, here are cliffs for the way my clan has worked in the past.

[*]No .com website
[*]Just a few members, playing 2v2, 3v3, matches, etc.
[*]In to a lot of games
[*]Can't play CAL w/o enough members, can't recruit enough members w/o CAL
[*]Large public servers too expensive to maintain
[*]Ventrilo as a primary form of communication
[*]Lots of people come in our ven for a week, get bored, and are never heard from again

Suggestions?

And no, I'm not trying to do blatant recruiting. I'd make a much more persuasive post if I were doing that.

Regardless, /flamesuit on.

Seriously, do people really have hardcore clans anymore? I remember in the Beta CS days, or even Quake/Quake II when there were some serious clan setups, but does that kind of ner...er...dedication still exist? ;)

Well, you don't need a .com site. I don't know if that forum link is your site, but if it isn't put it in your sig, noting it's a clan site. You might get some hits.

Oh yes, we had a forum, but I semi-neglected to check it because I put a sticky in it specifying to NOT POST IN THE FORUM and send me an email. About 30 retards posted in the forums, I'd send them a follow up email, and their reply was incomprehensibly stupid.

We don't have a good website/forum because I simply can't make a great site, and I don't know how to set up a good forum. I'll likely get some good webhosting here in a couple of days, and I could use advice on a website template to use, and also how to stick a forum on there.

i agree with you 4-6 years ago i would say clans were at their peak.

now they are just a joke most likely.

Back when TF and CS were main games.

Quake series always had the really serious clans. I remember my days clanning. hehe.

Yes, it does. I've been in at least 3 hardcore clans since y2k, and I'm slow moving. I'm not aiming to make a hardcore "clan" per se, don't let the nomenclature fool you.

We were pretty good, ranked 2 @ TWL in the 3v3 ladder, down to 3 or 4 in the 2v2 ladder, for CS:S.

Also, keep in mind that I'm a young'n, I never really saw the heyday of quake or beta CS.

The link in my sig is just a general gaming site, not my clan's site.

If your friends are actually good at the game. Tag up, go into irc and starting pugging. If you pug with soemeone that's good and you want them to join, ask em. Pugs are a good way to get a feel for someone, not just skills but personality wise. Never just advertise on a forums that you're recruiting. A) that makes you look really newb B) the people that respond usually blow. You dont need any kind of public server or forums, those went out of style with OGL. Just maintain an IRC channel and start pugging constantly with your friends at getting ringers. Thats my advice to you.

1. you need the standard PhP website

2. Be well known on CAL or Teamwarefare

3. Play a lot on servers so others get to know you

4. Get your own server

5. If you can't do those then you won't have a good clan.

Can you explain? I've never much used IRC for ANYTHING at all.

You have to be good enough so that people WANT to join you. Successful clans generally start with a small base of 3-4 core players, and then build around that.

I have the most experiance in Americas Army clans tho, mabye the comunity is different for CS

Well, we basically had 3-4 core players. We're ranked in the top 5 in every ladder we play in. The problem is, I guess, just lack of a good way to recruit. Recruiting on other people's forums is no good, and makes you look like a nef and a n00b, not to mention desparate, and recruiting on pubs isn't much better.
