Wait, recruiters call everybody because that's what they do. Why does everybody think they're gonna get drafted all of a sudden? There's probably 5 million people in the combined armed forces right now. They won't need you for a *long* time

i never said i was gonna get drafted, but i havent had a recruiter call me in almost 2 years. I am simlpy stating that they are calling, looking for recruits.
They are probably calling everyone in the 18-25 year range right now that they can get a hold of. They are using this incident as a reason to recruit more. I would assume they are judged on their performance by how many recruits they can get, so what better time than now to try and recruit when everyone's feeling all patriotic and what not.
Once you go to college and get close to graduating, you starting getting letters from military Officer programs. I'm a senior, and I get them all the time now.
I noticed the number of calls increased when I declared my major and then again when I graduated. Up until 3 years ago, I still got the occasional call from the navy trying to interest me in subs. And I was 25. BTW I had an interview with the GE's Electric Boat Division right after college so that probably got my name added to a whole new list. Nobody else really bothered me that much after graduation.
Don't be surprised- I'm 40, been in the Army for 17 years, and I just got a recruiting "flyer" last week.
BTW, I've never figured this out either- if you are in the Armed Services (even National Guard and Reserves) you still have to be registered with Selective Service. It would be a bear to come home after a tour of duty to find out you've been arrested for evading the draft..............
