What happened to the old days of undelete which came with DOS?

Does Windows XP Pro have something like?
If not what to do to recover files?

Nice that it is free...free is for me.

I've used something else which I could possibly look up, but this one was recently vouched for in this forum as being successful, and it's a lot newer than my other one. I doubt I've even tried my old one with xp.
