1) A month ago I had installed firefox on the top directory of my harddrive and when I uninstalled it I pressed yes to "Delete Directory". Because FireFox was on the top directory it wiped out my 40 gig harddrive. I haven't touched or downloaded anything on my harddrive, so my data is not overwritten or completely lost. Is there any software out there that can recover my data?

2) I have a .rar and .ace files that are password protected but do not know the password. Does anyone know any software that could recover a password or open a password protected file?

I would GREATLY appreciate any help.

1) It's highly likely that you will be able to recover your files. You will need another drive to copy the files to and probably run the recovery software from. Plug the drive to be recovered into a computer that has some recovery software (you didn't specify what file system the drive was using but any software that supports the file system should work).

2) Unfortunately although software for cracking rar and ace archives may exist they tend to be regarded as hacker tools rather than innocent utilities allowing people to regain "lost" passwords. It'll probably take a while just to find some software (I doubt anyone here would help) and even longer for the software to guess the right password. It's probably easier to go get hypnotized to remember the passes.
