Recovering restricted documents?

My harddrive died - again - leaving me a little stranded. Previously I recovered all the information I would need and left it at that. Well, I have to go back and retrieve that information again but with a slight problem - Windows is corrupted beyond repair on the harddrive leaving me locked out of my documents folder. Normally I would never set my accounts to be private but at the time I was in a high traffic dorm room.

My question is there a way to access the locked user documents? I cannot repair Windows or install over since the previous installation cannot be detected; leaving me no choice but to format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
