Recovering lost files?

My backup hard drive lost a couple of gigs of data out of the blue, i booted up the comp and all of a sudden scandisk recovers a couple of gigs of data.
It puts the files in a FOUND.000 type directory in 16kb chunks, is there anyway to recover these files?
