Recovering info from hard drive from my dead laptop

My Dell 600m died after a few years finally. It looks as though the motherboard went, as I tested everything possible, even a new AC adapter.

I have a lot of info on the hard drive which I pulled out and popped into a mini usb hd caddy. Now with my new system I can see the drive, and open it, but when I want to get into my folder with my documents it will not let me.

I was using XP Pro, and had a password to my account. Would this be not allowing me access to the files and folders that I need access to?

Cheers 🙂

yes permissions appear to be the problem. I would start at the root of the drive by right clicking the drive icon in windows explorer and choose security tab. Then take ownership of the drive at that lvl and make the changes apply to all subfolders and files you should then have no permission problems with any file or folders on the drive.
