Recovering from Shift + Delete- Windows 7 RC

I know that even with shift + del the files don't get erased permanently. How can I recover the files? I did a google search but there were so many programs out there and I don't want to complicate the situation by trying out various softwares out there.

Can you guys provide help with pointing out a software that just works?

Thanks.

BTW, i'm using Windows 7 RC 64 bit

Or try un-deleting it using Windows 7's Shadow Copy, assuming you have it. Go to the folder it was in, right-click in empty space, and choose Restore previous versions.

Any good? 😕

I've had good luck in the past with a program called "GetDataBack". Works like a charm to recover "permanently deleted" files.

PC Iinspector is the one that's listed in the free software thread. Used it once and it worked well, but it was a long time ago. Not sure if it will work in Windows 7.

Keep in mind "deleting" a file simply frees up the area of the HD the file was on and marks it as being available for overwriting with new data in layman's terms. So the file is not actually deleted from your HD yet. This is also how forensics scientists get data off your HD that has been deleted. You should try Win7's Shadow Copy feature, barring that try installing some sort of recovery app. These recovery apps usually can get the data back.

The problem is if the physical area of the HD has been overwritten with new data then you're effectively screwed. Try not to use it as much as possible and definitely don't do a lot of file copying and moving on that HD for now.

Good Luck.
