Recovering from failed/botched Xandros install

I'm a total Linux newbie and thought I would give it a try to learn something new. So I installed Xandros on my server's spare partition. But once it boots up Xandros stays at a command prompt even after I log in. No GUI. Doesn't matter if I'm logged in as myself or root I can't get a GUI to come up. I'd prefer to not have to reformat the whole drive as I don't feel like having to set my server up again. At this point I'd like to just remove it and try using redhat instead. However Xandros installed its own bootloader (LILO I think). How can I get rid of LILO so my machine will once again default to the Windows 2000 partition to boot from?

You can use your Windows 2000 boot cdrom to get into recovery console and use fixmbr to restore the Windows bootloader. It should be able to go and find the NTLDR's ini configuration file and restore the defaults for you.

Microsoft has some good information on how to use recovery console and such.
for windows 2000

They have a better page for Windows XP.
