Recovering files from old Windows 10 drive

Wife had a Samsung notebook that was updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10...then it had problems and would not boot (There was an invalid signature error when she tried to turn on the PC). The hardware was failing anyhow (delaminating) so she bought a new notebook and wants to recover the files from her old HD.

I installed the M2 drive in an enclosure and connected it to the new PC. She is getting an error message that she cannot access the C drive on the old drive. I thought there used to be a way to provide admin credentials for the original OS and access the files? Is this just on Win7 and not Win 10?

What method or tools can she use to retrieve files from the old hard drive?

Thanks,

Just pray that the laptop didn't have a TPM and SED, as Windows 8.1 and newer will AUTO-ENABLE BitLocker hardware encryption if those condition are true, as I understand it.

For some reason I tried plugging the drive into another machine that I was logged into as admin. I was able to gain access to the drive folders the same way I always have. I copied the files into another drive to move to my wife's machine.

Good news is she's decided that the transcend 500gb m2 drive is to blame for performance issues. I'll have to format it and move it into my PC to get it out of her way.
